With heavy hearts our family announces the passing of Bobby McBride, known fondly by family and friends as POP. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, who left us on August 28, 2026 at the age of 76. Bobby was born on September 01, 1949, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Bessie and George McBride. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jimmy McBride, and his sisters Ruby Castle, Rachel Marling, Cindy Holland, and nephew David McShan.

Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Debra, with whom he shared a love story that began on January 23, 1970, in Houston, Texas. Together they embarked on a life filled with adventure and fun, raising their two children, Bobby McBride, Jr. (Harriette) and Rebekah Gunthrie (Russ), while traveling with the military. After a tour in Berlin, Germany, their journey took them to Alaska, where Bobby and Debra spent the next 25 memorable years in Fairbanks and then on Kodiak Island where Bobby enjoyed halibut fishing and bear hunting. Bobby was especially fond of Fairbanks where he met his Savior. Their final destination together found them fulfilling their dream of retiring in Tennessee where Bobby, along with Bobby Jr. built their retirement home. Pop enjoyed the farm experience especially while working on his tractor.

Bobby’s legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Bagwill (Caleb), Shelbi McBride, Emily Gunthrie, and Connor Gunthrie, as well as his great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a very special sister-in-law, Bette Watts (Frank), and siblings Chester McBride (Linda), Herman McBride (Reba), Freida Holland, Joan Horswell, and Linda McBride.

Bobby’s dedication to his country was evident in his 12 years of active service in the United States Army, including two tours in Vietnam. He completed his military career on Kodiak Island with eight years in the Alaska Army National Guard. Bobby worked as a civilian for the Alaska Teamsters on the Kodiak Coast Guard Base.

Bobby’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a devoted member of the Pentecostals of McMinnville, Bobby found joy in serving the Lord, along with his wife, rarely missing a service. Bobby and Debra both enjoyed studying the Bible together. Bobby loved teaching the Word, especially the Revelation to John. His love for fishing was only surpassed by his passion for vacationing each year with his grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Bobby had a knack for lightening any mood with a well-timed joke. Even when ALS robbed him of his voice, he found ways to communicate his enduring optimism, thumping family and friends under the chin as if to say, “keep your chin up!” His generosity and hospitality left an indelible mark on all who knew him, making each person seen and valued. Bobby looked forward to his heavenly home, a place where his spirit will continue to shine brightly. He leaved behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith. Bobby’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A private graveside service will be held later to honor Bobby’s life. His spirit will forever be with us, and we take comfort in knowing we will see him again. Until then, rest in HIS arms beloved POP.
