McMinnville resident and Warren County native John Richard Woods, 83, born May 11, 1938 died Monday, September 13, 2021 at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital in McMinnville.

Richard was a retired dairy farmer at Elmwood Farms for over sixty years, a lifelong member and former elder at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and former President of Warren County Farmers Mutual Insurance company. He was the son of the late T.R, and Martha Woods. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Catherine Louise Johnson, Robert Allen Woods, and Evelyn Marie Woods. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Linda Sue Woods, children Johnathan (Kim) Woods of Viola, Amelia (Amy) Woods and Jennifer Woods of McMinnville, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.

He loved being a farmer and never shied away from hard work. His interests included anything Chevrolet or John Deere related, gardening, Titans football, and being outdoors in a field or driving through the countryside. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was a wiz at math and enjoyed searching for the best apple, peach, or tomato. Richard was a gentle giant with a tender heart and loving soul. He was so very loved and cherished.

Funeral services were conducted September 17, 2021, at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Rev. Mack White officiated. Interment followed at Liberty Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Meals on Wheels program or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
