Mrs. Joy Delores Prater, age 83, passed peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on July 20, 1941 in Coal City, West Virginia, was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was retired from Tennessee Mental Health. She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, and doing volunteer work. Mrs. Prater was preceded in death by her parents Robert Lee Maxell and Sadie Jane Bowlen Maxwell, sisters Betty Bechtel, Janice Crawford, and Ruth Lee, and brother Everett Maxwell.

Joy is survived by her husband of 54 years Mason Prater, children Anita Prater, Wanda Prater, Melinda Prater (Kyle Nash), Jason Prater, April (Mike) Kinslow, Trad Prater (Patrice Armstrong), and Tess (Rusty) Bafford, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral services were conducted November 13, 2024, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Cordell Crawford officiated. Interment followed at Center Hill Cemetery @ Hills Creek.
